U.S 1861 Springfield .58 Rifled Musket

U.S 1861 Springfield .58 Rifled Musket

A piece that really needs no introduction, an early 1861 model rifled musket, produced in Springfield Massachusetts.

These were the main stay of Union small arms during the American Civil war, which had a two year production run from 1861 onwards, being superceded by the model 1863 later in the war.

This rifle has certainly been there to tell the tales, but retains excellent mechanical function, owing to it's high quality of build. The wood is in mostly good condition, with some small areas of shrinkage and hairlines only.

The steel work is bright, with some legacy pitting marks, with a very strong/crisp action.

A must for any Civil war collector, and not one that comes up for sale all that often.
