P1851 EIC Victoria Carbine

P1851 EIC Victoria Carbine

For sale, a very neat type 3 pattern 1851 Victoria pattern carbine, in .70 caliber. The lock plate is marked with the rampant lion of the East India company. Carbines of this pattern saw use with both cavalry and artillery units within the EIC, and were ultimately considered too heavy and cumbersome for use on horseback, leading to their phasing out and replacement. The barrel is 26" long, with a total lwngth of 40.5".

The action is crisp & tight, with a complete/working captive ramrod setup, and a good clear percussion nipple. A nice example of an EIC short arm, dating from just before the Sepoy mutiny. There are two small areas of period wood repairs – one behind the lock plate, and one to the side of the fore-stock, both neatly carried out by an armorer.
