Henry Elwell 12 bore Pinfire Shotgun
For sale, a mid 19th century 12 bore pinfire shotgun by Henry Elwell of Birmingham. The pinfire cartridge design had a reitively short reign, really acting as a stopgap between percussion locks, and the advent of the self contained centrefire cartridge. The action works nicely on this piece, with some fine engraving to the lock plates and furniture. The walnut stock is beautifully coloured, but has some small cracks and losses around the back of the lock plates (still seems strong). The barrel has some old pitting to the bores and exterior, but on the whole would make a nice collectible for the wall. Total length is 99cm.
