Giant Naval 'Thundermug'
A humongous and very rare 'Thundermug'type signal cannon. During the golden age of sail, vessels entering port were reuired to declare their presence, in order to have their cargo and crew inspected for disease, before entry could be granted.
The loud acoustic report from these pieces made them a popular and economicl alternative to firing one of the ship's main armourments. Furthermore, this also prevented misconstrued acts of aggression when signalling other vessles, negating the need to run out one one of the main guns into battery.
Not only is this piece one of a kind in size, but it is also complete with it's original hot spike - which was used to touch off the vent, and fire the piece. These almost never survive, and this hand forged example is arguably as impressive as the barrel itself.
