9pdr French Naval Cannon
  • 9pdr French Naval Cannon

Here for sale we have a very large 9pdr French Naval Cannon. The barrel was cast in Ruelle in France in circa 1786, making it a revolutionary/Napoeonic era piece. The bore measures 4.25" and the barrel is 2.5 metres long, weighing around 1.6 tons, with a total weight of circa 2 tons.

The barrel likely ended up in UK following capture from a French vessle. Lord Nelson capured circa 700 French guns during the Battle of the Nile, which would make this a likely candidate given the age - having been sourced from a Royal Naval dockyard.

The Oak carriage was built in April 2018 from antique seasoned white Oak, and contains all of the correct iron furnature and windage adjustments that a Georgian Naval gun carriage of the period should have.

Also included in the sale are the contemporary loading tools and pieces that can be seen pictured, for display purposes. A piece that will add conversation to any garden or man cave.
