1pdr Ships Insurance Gun **SOLD**

A very nice ships insurance or large swivel gun. The 1.75 inch bore denotes this piece as a 1pdr, with a 29 inch length barrel, in a very heavy construction. 
Guns such as this were fitted to merchant naval vessels, in order to comply with the vessel's terms of insurance - requiring the vessel to be armed with a fireable gun, to discourage piracy or boarding parties. 
The barrel is mounted on a mostly complete wooden carriage, that would only require a set of axles and wheels to complete it. 
A very nice piece of nautical history, that would make a great hallway or porch decoration.
