15 Bore Poachers Pistol
Here we have a most unusual mid 19th century British 15 bore percussion Poachers pistol, sporting Birmingham proof marks. The pistol has a large turn off barrel, complete with a bore/foresight cover, and is designed to be concealed in a poachers overcoat.
This is likely the sort of piece that would have been arguably carried for "self defense" as opposed to for poaching purposes - thus keeping the carrier within the laws at the time.
The piece measures 44cm overall, with a 33cm barrel. The action holds half and full cock nicely, with a strong main spring and excellent percussion nipple. The woodwork is in good condition, with a brass inlay.
Overall, a most unusual and interesting piece.
