10mm Pinfire Bayonet Pistol

10mm Pinfire Bayonet Pistol

An intriguing 10mm double barreled pinfire pisol of Eurpean origin, dating to the second half of the 19th century. Pistols such as these were carried defensively to provide protection on the misty, dimly gaslight streets of the Victorian era. The unusual aspect of this pistol is the spring retained 10cm bayonet which neatly folds along the top of the barrels. The lanyard possibly denotes military usage, as a great many European pinfire pistols were imported by the confederacy during the american civil war of the 1860's.

The piece itself is in good condition, with a dark patina to the metalwork, good springs, and automatically folding triggers. Both hammers hold half and full cock well, and the moulded wooden grips are free from splits. Total length (without bayonet) is 23cm.
